6. No it is not, quite the contrary. Armpit hair (as well as public hair) improves ventilation and thus prevents moisture from lingering around and creating a nice environment for bacteria. If hair was not necessary there, it would have gone with the rest of our fur by now.

7. @Anon: That’s the truth. I had my armpit hair spontaneously fall out for an unknown reason a few months ago. Since that time my pits have tended to retain sweat and be quite uncomfortable. I really don’t know how women put up with it. It also explains why my wife does not routinely shave her underarm hair. I admit it took awhile to get used to, but now, meh.

45. The problem lies in the society that dictates these stupid rules. It should be up to a person what they do. It should be a person’s choice to shave or not, and the fact the those who don’t are ridiculed just shows what a twisted world we live in. Being a straight man, I love hair on women’s bodies and I know that many women wouldn’t shave it if weren’t for the societal pressure and ridicule of others. Let everyone mind their own business. It’s a very sad state of affairs
