"Fortune telling" of any kind is just telling people what they want to hear, whether it is palm reading, crystal ball looking, horoscopes, numerology, religion, etc. Some people just want someone to talk to that will make them feel good, they want a bit of hope in their mundane lives. Now if they are dumb enough to pay big money for it, well that is their problem, most "fortune tellers" though are fairly benign, or even helpful for people. Also it is my belief that you can learn something from every experience, I don't believe in fortune telling but there is something to learn from it.
