Big Bang should be revisited too, since there are other theories, like pulsating universe or our unverse as a part of multiverse (like a giant black hole in our universe could be a big bang and a tunnel to next universe etc. ) And good old christian - but you can't proove there was no god before big bang ... well, you can't proove there was. And considering the way science has went last thousand or so years, it is much more plausible that we shall find more interesting things than giant invisible man before BigBang

The story on the left may or may not be accurate. The story on the right is complete and total bullshit and anyone who believes that is just plain silly.

some type of force had to put all the things on the left into motion. Whether you call that god, nature, or just energy is up to you. We are not an accident.

Yes, indeed, the whole "big bang" thing is just creationism by stealth...even the pope likes the big bang theory, THAT should be a worry. And it comes down to this...how can time "Start" IF time did not exist before the "big bang", then how can it have occurred, time = change, without time, there is no change...

To be quite honest - that is rather true. I remember spending 3 hours fighting some religious freaks and trying to argue that dinosaurs existed. Just cause they weren't in the bible... God created Earth... God created first humans... Seriously where the f**k did the dinosaurs go?
guy (Monday, 20 Apr 2009)
there are mentions of dinosaurs in the bible, which means they must have been witnessed, which calls the entire timeline of evolution into question. http://www.clarifyingchristianity.com/dinos.shtml it mentions a huge beast with a tail like a cedar. ever seen a cedar? what type of animal that exists today has a tail like that? none. sounds like a dinosaur to me.

highly biased. I could just as easily phrase the other side to say a whole lot of nothing some how blew up into something, where molecules accidently collided to make something sentient. Or you could you know. Not group all of christianity into one group of fundementalists who don't think dinosaurs existed.

time is a dimension, as a property of matter (matter has spatial properties too, ie width, height, length). Before the big bang there was no matter therefore no height, width, length or time. I mean sure they could exist but there is nothing to compare them too, so they are meaningless. Here is another fact for you- the only *known* way to create heavier elements (like iron and lead) is from the fusion process in stars, means we were all part of the matter of a star/stars at some point.

YOU ARE ALL WRONG!. Science and religion are not enemies. Im a christian, I also believe in the big bang theory. The thing is, the christian religion goes hand in hand with science. Infact, there are other religions that believe that the universe is sitting in a giant elm tree, and another religion that focuses with the earth on the back of a tortoise shell! In the beginning of the christian bible, we learn that there was a progressive development of things, and that there was a process of separation. Not contradicting the big bang at all! Infact, the reason that God didnt talk about the big bang was that the people he was adressing didnt know about it. Duh. It wasnt Gods intention to give us a science lesson. Rather, something we couldnt obtain ourselves. Talking science though, most of the top leading US scientists are indeed Christians.
senseless_guy (Tuesday, 21 Apr 2009)
Well, why isn't he re-writing the Bible so WE can understand it? Or is he in a vacation now...?
LaurryG (Wednesday, 22 Apr 2009)
We can understand the bible. To be honest, the important message is very simple. The other thing is, remember, space and time are not things that God are restrained or affected by. He has always been, and always has been. 'Infinite' is something that getting ones head around is boggling! All creation from the big bang could have been in the blink of his eye, I mean, whos watch are we on anyway?
senseless_guy (Wednesday, 22 Apr 2009)
What you call "understanding" is actually interpretation. And there are as many interpretation as christians out there. I can do the same thing with Alice in Wonderland and could find the mistery of life in it and even contact some alien life forms and get the hell out of this stupid planet. But I won't, because is as stupid as interpreting the bible.
anamolous (Thursday, 23 Apr 2009)
No. It. Doesn't. the christian religion does not go hand in hand with science, the very idea of a god is not scientific. In the beginning god created the earth... in 6 days. That's what it says in the bible. That obviously doesn't go well with current scientific theories. And don't give me that bullshit about how the bible isn't meat to be taken literally or you have to read it contextually. If all those bullshit bible stories are metaphors then why can't god be a metaphor. How do you know what you're picking and choosing? And what does scientists being christians prove? Your pathetic appeal to authority is not even worthy of being called a strawman. What if said scientists were born in the middle east, or china? Do you still think they'd be christian? If god always has been... etc, why can't the universe itself share these characteristics. A supernatural answer to a natural question is a useless answer. I think you should try reading the bible, maybe then you'll realize how much bullshit is in it

Taking a clear side in this boring argument is a clear sign of stupidity. The only real questions are metaphysical - there are no answers in science, nor questions worth asking.

This is very basis against religion. "kapow" "magic tricks" None of that makes any real sense (and i know that was the point). Funny how science is seen as perfect. Yet today there are so many problems that science can't solve so many answers science can't do. example: Big bang wtf is that? it doesn't explain anything. If science is to take over from religion then at least allow a fare playing field. This is just a joke making fun of religion, any hope of actually replacing religion is lost because right from the beginning, religion is ridiculed and not adequately represented. The only thing that mildly references Christianity is the earth being created in 6 days. Everything else is just jokes and jeers at religion.
superjew (Monday, 18 May 2009) Reply
I think that the big bang theory is a theory and thus suseptible to change and stupid because it never happened even though scientists have dubbed it a THEORY. whereas the bible written by men about other men then revised and translated by a different sect of men is absolutly infalible

What the world needs is a "suicides for christ" movement. By the way, this month (May 2009) scientists proved the formula for creating RNA in a laboratory, the building blocks for DNA, while biologists showed a key missing like between humans and primates. The myth of a "prime mover" loses again.

I would like it if atheists actually could be more mature with their arguments... i would have taken this with some value if it wasn't for the mockery of "not a sausage", "happy birthday", "reading his library", etc sorta stuff. Makes atheists seem really unintelligent and makes them seem like a whiny person looking to start a fight. So clean up your act and maybe we can act like adults... if you are one.

Science = something our brains have evolved to understand TO A CERTAIN DEGREE.
Religion = what man uses to substitute the confusion of the fact that he can't understand it all.
It's quite simple, we are just cells trying to survive, no one said we're evolved to the state where we can comprehend everything. WE ARE NOT THAT SMART YET - wish ppl could just learn to deal with it an move on from Science VS Religion. Religion is a fine psycological defense mechanism, not anything more..
2+1=21 (Tuesday, 22 Jun 2010) Reply
Hmm...this tells me that God is A LOT more efficient at creating life, the universe, and everything. Why? Because it took almost that WHOLE image for "evolution" to do it while God just snapped His fingers there at the end.
By the way, since so many of you are so keen on this picture. The part near the top on the God side that says, in short, nothing existed...why isn't there a similar one before the big bang. Why are scientists so keen to accept the big bang theory. How can something, without the help of a higher being, be created from ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?? Scientists admit that there was nothing at all before the big bang...nothing...not a single atom. So how the did the big bang happen? I'm in between both these explanations. I prefer the science view but I also believe in a God since there is NO WAY the big bang could have happened otherwise if there was nothing in existence before then. Just sayin.
