I guess the point exactly between irises, the tip of his nose, the gap between the teeth and the tip of the chin should be aligned - and while the original statement is a tiny bit exaggerated, it is actually worth noticing :P

It's true, but it's not this extreme. A friend of mine is a director of photography in Hollywood, and says it's been a well known fact that Cruise has this dental situation. Even though this picture is stilted to make it seem worse, and therefore looks like a fraud, apparently his teeth are, or were, actually slightly disturbing to the viewer in person. Maybe the braces a few years ago have fixed the problem.
